Team Lotus back in Formula 1 in 2011!

News on the announcement hit Hangar 111 just after Mike Gascoyne’s Tweet to tell followers that the FIA entry list confirmed that the name Team Lotus was accepted.  The use of the name hasn’t been without various issues however and it would be nice to say it all boils down to one in particular – but sadly it doesn’t.

It took us a while to get our heads around the politics of the situation regarding the name, but The Save Team Lotus website gives a very concise explanation.

At Hangar 111 we are happy to see that Colin Chapman’s original F1 team name is back in use (Greg has always been a huge fan of Chapman) and with a team that shows consistency, determination and plenty of heart.

Here, we think that Trulli and Kovalainen are a fantastic asset to F1 and we are sure that a massive proportion of the Lotus ownership agree judging by customer comments and other mentions around the web.

Good luck and best wishes to Tony Fernandes and Team Lotus for 2011!!  We can’t wait to see the cars in their new Black and Gold livery!

Lotus Cup UK is Go for 2011

New Lotus Championship for 2011

Lotus on Track Racing Drivers Club (LoTRDC), in conjunction with Motorsport Vision Racing (MSVR), are pleased to announce the formation of a new championship for the 2011 season: Lotus Cup UK.

The new championship, which has been granted outline approval by the MSA will run alongside LoTRDC’s hugely successful Lotus on Track Elise Trophy, which will be heading into its fifth season and Lotus Cup Europe, the only official Group Lotus race series, which has been run on the manufacturer’s behalf by LoTRDC for the past two seasons.

Lotus Cup UK will consist of 8 rounds over 6 events. Four of these will feature 60 minute races, which will include a mandatory pit stop, whilst the remaining two will run with a 20 minute sprint, followed by either a 30 or 40 minute race.

Regulations will be the same as those for Lotus Cup Europe, which will enable drivers to switch between the UK and European series.

The Championship will feature 5 Classes:

  • 2-Eleven – Specifically aimed at the Toyota supercharged Lotus 2-Eleven circuit car.
  • Exige Cup – Aimed at all Exige S2 variants – including the 2009 Lotus Exige Cup 260, Exige Cup 255, Exige Cup 240, Exige Cup 190 and Exige S.
  • Lotus Open – For Lotus cars that do not fall into the above categories – including Elise S2 supercharged Toyota, Modified K series Elise S1, S2, 340R and Europa. Other Lotus cars may be accepted by invitation only.
  • Production – With factory specification engines and limited modifications permitted.
  • Evora – For standard specification Evora race cars.

The race lengths and Championship status are designed to promote serious competition, whilst the Elise Trophy, which will race at some of the meetings, will remain a club series for those who are new to racing or prefer a more relaxed environment.

The Yokohama AO48 will be the control tyre, which is the same specification for the Elise Trophy and Lotus Cup Europe. This will help drivers who wish to swap between Europe’s major Lotus race series.

The wishbones on all models of the Elise, Exige, 340R, Europa and 2-Eleven are prone to having a very rusty appearance.  We now have the perfect solution.  Our stove-bake-enamelled wishbones are just the ticket for revitalising those corroded items and giving your Lotus a fresh suspension setup.  As you can see below, the results are exceptional and with the option of adding 3M stone-chip protection film to give even more protection, the results will last for a very, very long time. Combined with a full geometry and alignment, what better way to put your Lotus to bed for the winter!

Combined with our anodised rear toe-link and brace-bar kit and a our 3-Way adjustable JRZ Race Suspension kit your Elise, Exige or 2-Eleven will be fit for the track for years to come.

New Geometry & 4-Wheel Aligner Now Installed

After our workshop expansions during 2009 we planned space for a new alignment system.  Installed in August, our state-of-the-art John Bean Visualiner 3D system has allowed us to provide micro-fine adjustments to geometry and wheel alignment for dozens of happy road and track drivers.

We are now able to achieve complete geometry adjustment (including ride-height if required) and 4-wheel alignment while you wait.  Times can vary depending on the vehicle and condition of the suspension, but we are usually able to complete a full alignment within 2 hours of arrival.

Prices start at £25 for a diagnostic check to find out if any further work needs to be done.  A 4-wheel alignment (front track, rear toe and thrust line) is £60.   A complete geometry adjustment (camber, caster, ride-height) and 4-wheel  alignment starts at £100.  All alignment checks and revisions come complete with a comprehensive print out that shows before and after settings.

Strong, Lightweight GT Toe-Link Kits

Track Day enthusiasts running on semi-slick or slick tyres usually find that their rear toe-link joints wear out at an incredible rate.  Worn inner and outer toe-link ball joints will make the tail end of your Lotus feel sloppy through corners and uneasy over undulations in the road surface.

Que our lightweight GT Toe-Link and Brace-Bar Kits.  Designed to introduce total accuracy to the rear toe-link assembly, the kit of high-precision sperical bearings (rose joints) and high-strength bars with mico-adjustment means you can setup and maintain your rear toe for much longer without the need to replace worn ball joints.

Available as a complete toe-link and brace bar kit for all Toyota-engined Elise, Exige and 2-Eleven or a  toe-link only kit for Elise S1 and Elise S2.

GT Toe-Link Kit for the Rover Engined Elise S1 and Elise S2.

GT Toe-Link Kit for the Toyota Engined Elise, Exige and 2-Eleven.
