Hangar 111 Driver “Tuning” Days

Performing vehicle setup at the trackside is a key skill that aided our race team greatly during the 2012 race season leading to successes for two different drivers who required very different vehicle dynamics.  During 2013 we are extending this service to new and existing Hangar 111 customers who would like to go faster on the track and make best use of any modifications or upgrades that might have been fitted.

If you are planning suspension, brakes or other performance upgrades we can offer you the opportunity to combine a session with our professional instructor Andrew Bentley and our race team who can carry out on-the-spot adjustments to your car at the track side.

Just a few of the things you will benefit from by attending one of our Driver “Tuning” Days :

  • A better understanding of car set-up and dynamics
  • Improved driving technique through evaluation
  • The confidence to go faster on the track
  • Make the most of the modifications you have made to your car
  • A tuned setup to your specific needs

During a half-day or full-day of driver coaching and vehicle setup, you can benefit from Andrews many years as a race driver and driving coach and learn more about precision car control, improve your understanding of the car and how small changes can make a big difference when implemented by our race team.

“Hangar 111 Driver Tuning” days are available on request and can be arranged for one or two people at virtually any UK motor racing circuit.

Elise Trophy & Cup UK Racing in 2012

If you have been following us on Twitter you will already know that we ‘ve had a very successful race season!  Our Elise 111R was driven by Andrew Bentley during the Lotus Cup UK (LCUK) and Elise Trophy (ET) season and Steve Quick in the final Lotus 6 hour race at Brands Hatch.

Starting 2012 with a new race team, a relatively new car (we had a previous 2nd place at Spa on October 2011) and our first season in the Elise Trophy and Lotus Cup UK we achieved no less than 10 podium finishes and multiple 1st place wins including double’s  and triples at Donnington Park and Snetterton.  It was an entertaining season to say the least with evenings and weekends sacrificed to get car and team into shape.

We were blessed with two very communicative drivers, and a combination of excellent driver feedback, accurate car setup and our vast experience and knowledge of the Type 111 platform allowed us to very quickly see the drivers achieving their aims.  The team achieved a number of personal goals during the season including excellent performances under pressure when we were hit with an engine failure during the August Lotus Festival weekend at Brands Hatch GP.  A late night engine change was worth it however as the car was on the grid with Andrew Bentley at the helm who put in a fine performance starting at the back of the grid and bringing the car home in 2nd place.

The end of season endurance at Brands Hatch proved once again that we were able to deliver success for our driver – this time Steve Quick, the 2011 Lotus Cup UK Champion (so no pressure there then!).  With our Elise 111R running a completely revised suspension setup, numerous car adjustments and only a few weeks to test, Steve’s wealth of experience in endurance racing coupled with our ability to work closely with both car and driver brought Steve home in 1st Place in the Production Class.  It was an amazing end to a great first season.

Our 2012 Lotus Elise Trophy & Lotus Cup UK Results:

  • ET – 14th April – Silverstone GP – Bentley – Qual:  6th – Race 1:  8th
  • LCUK – 15th April – Silverstone GP – Bentley – Qual: 2nd – Race: 3rd

  • LCUK -28th July – Oulton Park – Bentley – Qual: 3rd – Race: 8th
  • ET – 18th & 19th August – Brands Hatch GP – Bentley – Qual: 2nd – Race 2: 2nd
  • ET – 6th October – Donington GP – Bentley – Qual: 2nd – Race 1:  1st – Race 2: 1st
  • ET – 28th October – Snetterton 300 – Bentley – Qual 1st – Race 1:  1st – Race 2: 1st
  • LCUK -28th October – Snetterton 300 – Bentley – Qual 1st – Race 1: 1st
  • ET – 10th November – Brands Hatch – Quick – Qual 4th – Race: 1st

Bentley Takes Double Win!

After the excitement at the Brands round of the Elise Trophy and our absence from the Castle Combe round due to driving work commitments, we returned for a busy day at Oulton Park for the 4th round of this years LOTRDC series.

Hangar 111 driver Andrew Bentley was straight back in the saddle of our production class Elise 111R and right away clicking up lap times that mirrored and exceeded those of the previous season. We were back!!

In brief, we achieved a 1st place finish in Elise Trophy race 1 after the Rover-Powered Elise S2 of Rob Boston retired from P1 on the last lap of the race.

In Lotus Cup UK we held a tight 2nd place to the finish however we unfortunately picked up a 2 lap penalty for leaving the pits 2 seconds early after refuelling!

Elise Trophy race 2 saw an incredible flying start from Bentley, moving from 8th into 1st place within a half-lap, a lead which held to the finish with 2nd place Rob Boston catching up throughout. Amazing adrenalin in the pits and incredible racing to watch.

It all came together this weekend with a race meeting that technically gave us three podiums had it not been for the penalty. Amazing driving by Andrew and great performance from our team.

Thanks to to the team – our latest additions Ben and Sam, also to our regular honorary team member Rob Clarke for the spannering, fuel, lunch and breakfast trips! Thanks also to Marianne without whom we would have been without brakes on Saturday morning!!

I should mention the huge number of calls, emails and text messages we have received from customers all over the world since Sunday – superb encouragement!! See you at Brands Hatch for the Lotus Festival!!

Turbo Technics Supercharger Refurbishment

We are now pleased to be able to offer a refurbishment service for Turbo Technics Elise Superchargers.  The work includes complete disassembly and reassembly of the supercharger unit and inspection of internals with replacement parts if necessary.

turbo-technics-supercharger– Inspection of all Internal Components
– Replacement of Internal Bearings
– Replacement of Inner and Outer Oil Seals
– Remanufacture of some internal components

All work can be combined with a service for your vehicle.

Prices start at £465 +vat for bearings, seals and inspection.

If the supercharger unit has failed (noisy or heavy rattles present), internal components may be required.  Turbo Technics are no longer able to supply stock of these components.  Reproduction of the components to the precise specification required would be very expensive, therefore we recommend having your charger inspected and refurbished every 3 years and the oil cooler system inspected and flushed through at each service.

Suffolk Meet – Summer 2002

We’re celebrating 10 years of Hangar 111 this year and what better way to celebrate than to get all nostalgic with some old photos!

These are from our vast collection of Suffolk Meet photos.

“Suffolk Meet” started around 14 years ago after a group of us met at the Lotus factory and decided to keep in touch.  Suffolk was generally closer than the factory to the majority of us so after a few months, Suffolk Meet was born!  Track days, holidays, children, sprint championships and more track days followed!  Somewhere in all that we started a business!

Has it really been 10 years?
